Re: Acid Attack

I also feel for the parents of the "naughty" children.
I would be devastated like they are, that my child would do that.

Re: Whats happening in the Holidays

There isn't much quiet here working in the holidays......I bring in my CDs (and attempt a sing-along) and I put on the lab TV (to catch up on Oprah-ha ha). It sure can be peaceful though. I started back in 05 when there was "work choices" and talk of teachers having to work through the hol...

Re: making cell models

Hi All Went well this morning and one more class this afternoon. Plenty of newspaper on benches and dedicated food equipment. Teacher had choice of cups, plates or bags (lucky I had stocked up). Used cups as the cell wall. The children were that excited! Those students who followed instructions abou...

making cell models

Hi All

Does anyone have a recipe for making cells with jelly and lollies please?
I have to prepare for pracs tomorrow. I'm not sure on lolly types or quantities of jelly. I remember something like jaffa for nucleus and nerds floating about.

Any help appreciated

Re: Distilled water

We use more of a demineralised water. The uniy we use is a cylindrical unit about about 350mm high and base about 170mm diameter. A hose is connected from the unit to a tap. Water passes through a cartridge (similar to water filter and you have next best to distilled water. We have had no problems f...

We use saturated potassium nitrate at times. No problems so far. Crystals grow in plastic petri dishes.

Re: coding of HCL

Thanks everyone.
I had made the 4M for seniors only and teacher wasn't impressed. He doesn't like the dilute solutions, prefers 2M or 4M to hasten the reactions. Uses stronger HCl with Magnesium or Zinc (mainly for pop test).

Try your local chemist. Not sure of price. You mix it with warm water for a mouth wash.

Re: Wollongong Labbies, Microscope repairs

Hi I am in Nowra and received quotes toward the end of last year for servicing of all our microscopes. Issco had a minimum of 15 microscopes and were substantially dearer than EduSupplies Pty Ltd. We used EduSupplies Pty Ltd @ $35 per microscope. They also called in at another local school after us....

Re: CONASTA 59 4-7 JULY @ UTS SYDNEY

I have had a look at the workshops for Lab Assistants. Can't see school approving attendance for partial days of workshops. It is a shame too that workshops I would like to attend are on at the same time. St Mary's is my preferred option as two full days relate to Lab Technicians.

Hi
I am in the same boat....so to speak.
I rang Haines last week and they no longer supply it. The glass was wrapped in bubble wrap and in tubes but usually arrived broken thus making it not worth keeping in stock.
