CONASTA 59 4-7 JULY @ UTS SYDNEY
Just a reminder that early-bird registration has been extended for another 2 weeks.
If your school has a faculty membership of your state science teachers' asscn (STANSW, SEA*ACT, STAWA, STANT, STAV, STAQ, STAT, SASTA ) then you are deemed to be a member and thus pay "member" registration rate.
Conference workshop and registration details can be found at
www.conasta.edu.au/
Would be great to see you there

I have had a look at the workshops for Lab Assistants. Can't see school approving attendance for partial days of workshops. It is a shame too that workshops I would like to attend are on at the same time. St Mary's is my preferred option as two full days relate to Lab Technicians.

With CONASTA you just aren't restricted to going to LabTech workshops. You can choose to go to ANY workshop.
I understand the practicality of having a conference specifically for LabTechs and I too am looking forward to the St Marys conference.
Its funny that the St Marys conference attracts more labbies than the annual science teachers' conference attracts teachers !
I guess the teachers don't know what they're missing !

The conference went well...interesting array of handson workshops and great keynote speakers including Dr Karl, and Barry Bruce whose passion and research is on white sharks. Little known information is that Bruce the shark in Finding Nemo was in fact named after Barry !
The Lab Tech keynote was on Illicit Drug Manufacture and the impact it can have on the equipment and chemicals we have in our schools. A powerful and moving powerpoint presentation showed some outcomes that these illegal substances have on innocent children.
The number of labbies that attended were
QLD - 10
VIC - 8
NSW - 7
WA - 5
TAS - 4
SA - 2
Many thanks to the labbies from interstate that presented workshops over the 3 days.
Next year the conference will be in Darwin

Darwin here we come!!! I would have liked to have gone to the one in Sydney, however I had already taken a fair bit of time off from the Fire Brigade and didn't want to throw another week in... and also I have 3 more trips to Sydney planned in the next couple of months. I went to the one last year in Tasmania. I absolutely LOVE the NT so I will be making every effort to get up there on a tax deductable holiday!!!

Darwin is my dream destination also.
I'll work on it at school and at home and maybe I can come too.
