Batteries

Post by vlclabbie »

Hi, I'm after a cheap source for batteries - D, AAA, AA etc.... Is there anything cheaper than the local supermarket??

Thanks everyone

Not that I've found so far. Most suppliers are actually more expensive, then you have to pay freight on top of that... But it's been a while since I looked it all up. I'd just go with the supermarket.

The $2 shops or novelty stores usually have batteries.
I bought a pack of 10 AA's for $2

Kel, surely a place the size of Wodonga has a battery shop! I buy bulk boxes of batteries from specialist battery shops and they are always cheaper, and being local, I don't pay freight.

I've found with cheap shops the batteries are cheap and don't last very long, so in my opinion it would be worth spending the extra money on batteries that last (unless they frequently go missing and you don't actually get to use them till they go flat) because you'd probably spend more on cheap ones in the long run. What I mean is, if you want 10 hours (random figure - not reality) of power, you might need 4 sets of $2 batteries compared to 1 set of $5 batteries so you are spending $8 instead of $5, not to mention the inconvenience of having to change them all the time. That's just my thoughts though. If you go with the cheap ones I'd be interested to know how you go with them. Maybe I've just been unlucky in the past!

I'm with Rosalie,
I only buy top of the range batteries after buying some cheapos from the $2 shop that werent even strong enough to turn a camera on, never mind be able to use it.
You really do get what you pay for when it comes to batteries.

Try Dick Smith Wholesale. Schools get access to wholesale pricing. EG just bought watch batteries for stopwatches for $1.38 compared to $2.99 or pack of 40 AA Alkaline for $18.17 compared to $24.99 through their retail outlets. If you don't have an account, ring them on 1300 366 644 to set it up.
Cheers,
Tim
