spiny leaf insects
Re: spiny leaf insects
With spiny leaf insects: eggs that are layed when you have a male present will be male or female and eggs that are layed without a male will all be born female!

Re: spiny leaf insects
you guys must be relatives of the spiny leaf eating kind....hope my eggs don't take too long and i'll soon be a MUM...its like an IVF unit...we had a male too but he died 9 months after being bought...but its true if the male fertilises the eggs you get male and female and if you have no males they are all females...only 1/1000 are male eggs...makes you wonder what it would be like to be a female spiny leaf eater...maybe not... too much PMT (lol)....hope your Christmases are full of little crawly critters and LOTS of BLING.....
Re: spiny leaf insects
Sassi and Bindi, how are your babies going??
I have about 4 which hatched over weekend, so that makes it 8 in last two weeks, but we have heaps of adults.

Re: spiny leaf insects
Morning everyone, Does anyone out there have any spiny leaf insect eggs I could have I would love to set them up for our kids. Have a great week
Re: spiny leaf insects
Hi Tori,
give me your postal address and I will send you some eggs. They are easy to look after .
I will enclose instruction sheet.
I have just given Sassi 30-50 babies but she lives in the next suburb so that was easy.

Gosh Lada... do you have any eggs left??? I'd love some too but I'm betting you might be out with all those requests! If anyone has any I'd love as our lab has no life in it at the moment & I'm sure the kiddies would love them (especially in a P-12 school)!!! Thanks heaps. Kel

Re: spiny leaf insects
Hi Bindi, I got some eggs from lada last term (we were talking privately after that so it didnt appear in this thread that lada had sent me some).
Now that I am back from holidays I have set up the tank and put out 5 eggs, sprayed them with water, and now are soooooooooooooo impatient for them to hatch!!!!!
Lada, I decided not to put them all out as you said it may be spring before they hatch and I was worried I might ruin them all by the constant spraying, thinking they might go mouldy if I'm not carefull. Do you think this is the best way to go or do the eggs have a limited shelf life and perhaps i should try to hatch all of them now?
cheers

Re: spiny leaf insects
Hi Bindi, Lada was giving you my addy - would love some!!!
I'm starting to worry about the inbreeding going on with these spiny stick insects..... perhaps they will mutate & we'll end up with multicoloured ones with one enormous bulging red eye & pink polka dot legs with flower-shaped feet on the end!!!!
Thanks Bindi & Lada - Kudos!!!

Re: spiny leaf insects
Hi all,
Just thought I'd let everyone know that I am the proud mummy of a spiny leaf insect named "peanut". Its the cutest little thing and I'm hanging out for more. It hatched from one of the 2 batches of eggs sent to me. Is anybody else's hatching yet?
Cindy
