Science Textbooks?

Post by Phoenix »

Hi All,

One of our year 9/10 science teachers is looking into purchasing new science texts for years 8, 9 and 10.

QCAR Essential learnings for science Queensland is the new syllabus that must be taught and the teachers are after new textbooks that will cover this new cirriculum.

Just wondering what textbooks are currently being used for science and can anyone recommend some good texts that will cover this new format. Currently our 8, 9 and 10's are using Jacaranda Science 1, 2 and 3.

I'm a little baffled with all of this and so are the teachers seeing as no information on any new texts has been sent to the school, any info would be great. :-?

Thanks :)

That could be because of the Nation curriculum due to start a BIG IF in 2011-2012, Guess no one whats to buy a lot of books then it all changes again, this time Nation wide, WOW

We are purchasing NewQscience Essentials which is a text for the new syllabus. We are starting with year 8 (and possibly year 9 if budget allows) next year. The publisher is Nelson Cengage Learning, go to http://www.nelsonsecondary.com.au, or email austcustomerservice@cengage.com. They will send books on approval, and even supply a work program if you buy the texts (our HOD was most impressed!).
Our teachers think they are really good texts, they are set out in a way that is easy for non science specialist teachers teaching science to use also.

Why doesn't your Science dept get textbooks on approval and check out the different formats within the texts. We have a variety of textbooks including Science World 9 (useful for some units, class sets in labs) , Science Quest (teacher reference), Science for Life (Year 7) and our current textbooks Science Dimensions 1 and 2 (two class sets kept in the labs). Science Dimensions superseded the Science World textbooks. The Teacher CD's have risk assessments for the practicals in the textbooks and there are also risk assessments for the preparation that is done by the lab. technicians. Very useful information for all lab. techs.
