Dissection Scissors

Post by rae »

Our dissection scissors are crap they are all blunt and impossilbe to use for a descent dissection. Does anyone know if they can be sharpened? Who would do it? and is it worth it. Would it be better off buying better quality new ones? Any suggestions on where to buy good ones?

Thanks Lorrae

It might not work on the pointed tips, but a cheap & chearful way to sharpen scissor blades is to fold a piece of alfoil 4 or 5 times into a thick pad, & cut strips of it with the scissors.
I think it's from Better Homes & Gardens.

Ours are only the regular ones bought fairly cheaply through either qstores or a science supply company. As they are fairly cheap I replace them when the teachers complain: probably every three years or so. Sharpening would not be worth it for the type of scissors we have. I know hairdressers have their scissors sharpened but they are very expensive ones to start with. Also they would be too expensive for the kids to lose, not that we lose many dissection ones, but I bet we would if they were expensive.

We used to get our scissors sharpened but they were around $4.00 each so now I just replace them every few years.
