Just doing a washing, cleaning and complete inventory of my chemicals and have come across a mixture of Manganese Dioxide and Potassium Chlorate. Why would I have done this? Can anyone tell me? Thanks

Mixed Chemicals
Re: Mixed Chemicals
Hi Maree,
This mixture when heated produces large quantities of Oxygen. The mixture would of reacted so that the Potassium Chlorate would of Oxidised the Manganese Dioxide, but with itself becoming reduced hence the reaction releases Pure Oxygen. Light a Wooden splint then blow it out then whilst it is still glowing submerse it near the reacting powders and the splint will be re-ignited..
This would of cleared some doubt for you...
Cheers,
Robb.....
