Microscope cover slips

Post by vlclabbie »

Hi all,

I was just wondering what you all do with Junior classes and cover slips?

I am finding that they are going through them like wildfire but it was my understanding that not everything always needs one. I also have issues with the juniors using them - because I cut myself very easily with them - what hope have Junior kids got??

Discuss.

The absolute best thing I ever did was buy plastic cover slips from Southern Bio! They are great! They are certainly more than merely adequate. I have even had more senior classes use them by mistake and results were still fine.

I love them (in case you hadn't worked that out). And best of all, no smashed invisible cover slips in the sinks, an the desks, floors etc. :clap3:

Ring them - they're down your end of the world.

Hi Smiley,

do you reuse them, or are they disposable? If you reuse them how do you wash them?

We-e-e-ell they could be reusable, but I choose "Not". 8-[ This is not an indication of how well off my school is, coz we're not, but merely that I can't stand to wash cover slips! #-o Washing slides is bad enough. That being said I'm sure it's possible. I wash all my slides by soaking them in glass washing liquid - i.e. whatever the bulk supply equivalent of Windex is - and then rinsing them in hot water. I chuck all the coverslips as I go.

Hope that's helpful?
