Question from a yr 11 Chemist. (doing elements). How is the sodium metal extracted/produced?

Hi rainbow-sky

Molten NaCl is electrolysed at ~600degC. Cl2 gas is produced at carbon anode, and liquid sodium at iron cathode, which is allowed to cool to solid.

Hi All,

Keeping in mind that this is done under an inert atmosphere, usually with purged with Nitrogen.
