When do you take your A/L for your other school? As, if I remember right, you are only employed during term time (like me)?

Re: New Chemwatch for schools GOLD FXX

Well we just had a email though saying all the catholic schools in the state are being switched over together very soon! Luckily they have scheduled a training session in two weeks that I get to go to. So I will keep you posted. (Wayne, are you going? 26/9 at Hutchins) I don't know anything about i...

Re: Limewater still

I have never seen this! I have winchesters that I inherited over 13 years ago.. I have never had to make any lime water up! They have a slurry of Calcium Hydroxide in the bottom. When the volume of liquid above the slurry gets low, I just add water and shake, then set the winchesters aside to settle...

That's the place Nicky! Usually takes about 2 days for them to deliver to Tas, a little longer with chemicals.

Re: Freight for transportation of chemicals

Just had some chemicals shipped down to Tassie (from Qld) with freight costs adding up to $0! They charge a set fee 0f $35 to ship to Tas, but if you spend $250 they will ship for free. After totalling up my order it came to $245. I went looking for something that I might need for $5 and saved $30.

Did it again today with strawberries and worked wonderfully. If looking for meat tenderiser it can be found at the supermarkets with the herb and spices. Master Foods have it in a 70g jar.

Thanks Lisa. We always do well at regionals, but always fall down at the state final. Not this year though! They love busting that stereotype that boys are better than girls at these things!

Re: Science and Engineering Challenge

We have caused a minor headache for the school. The nationals, in Lismore, are on 31 October which is the final day of our annual grade 9 Canberra trip. So they have to figure out what to do with the grade 9's that are on the team, find even more staff that want to go on an overnight trip with stude...

Re: Calcium Metal and HCl

Yes agreed, but maybe a 0.1M HCl will prove the point. Or set up a quikfit, with calcium in the bottom and a bit of dilute acid in a separating funnel with tubing off the middle-joining-bit (the name of which I cant remember) and bubble it up thru' a beehive (in a trough of water, in a fume hood), ...

Calcium Metal and HCl

A grade 10 class is doing reactivity of metals and are using the usual metals in HCl. The teacher is wanting to demo calcium in 2M HCl. It's been a very long time since I have used Ca, and for the life of me can't remember if it safe to add it HCl or the reaction is too violent. :-? #-o Did a quick ...

Re: pressure cooker

Last year I upgraded my kitchen pressure cooker (due to it stop functioning properly) to a laboratory steam sterilizer, it wasn't cheap, but feel it was worth it. I did start looking for a kitchen pressure cooker to replace it, but quickly came to the conclusion I needed to bnite the bullet and spen...
