Anyone know where I can get tin nitrate? I've looked in q-stores, serrata and science supply for it and it isn't there... I need it for Friday which doesn't give me much time! I don't really want to ask other schools if I can have some unless I know I can replace it.

Dear Rosalie,
I am stunned!!
It doesn't seem to exist either as Stannous, Stannic or Tin nitrate.
Even the Merck Index (the bible of chemical existance) doesn't acknowledge it.
I am sure there is a reason.
Good Luck!

Hi Rosalie
If you could tell us what you are using the tin nitrate for, we may be able to recommend a substitute.
Cheers

I'll be using tin chloride instead as that seems to be the only tin compound available and we have it in stock. It is for a yr 12 prac on galvanic cells. The teacher has said this will work ok. If anyone happens to come across tin nitrate in their travels though, do tell!
Thanks,
Rosalie

Hi All,

Regarding the Tin Nitrate question...

Tin Nitrate will be dificult to find, although, a perutable Chemical Supplier should be able to track some down for you.. Keepin mind that the prices will vary from ordr to order as the price of metals fluctuate over the stock market.

There are a number of Tin Nitrate molecules of interest and due to the many types I will list them all here for you:

Tin (II) Nitrate
Sn(NO3)2 . 20H2O
(These are colourless leaflet shaped)

Tin (II) Nitrate, Basic
Sn0 . Sn(NO3)2
(These are white crystalline shaped)

Tin (IV) Nitrate
Sn(NO3)4
(These are white needle like shaped)

The later I would suggest you look out for.

Hope this helps,

Cheers,

Robb.....

Hi Smiley - This thread may or may not help you... I had the same issue last year. I never did find any!
