Dear All - I'm looking for a recipe for Schultz solution (Test for Cellulose) There is supposed to be one in the CSIS Training manual, but I am unable to find it. Any of you good people help? Looking forward to your reply. Cheers. Judy.

Hi Judy,

I was asked for Schultz's solution last year, and found a recipe in the older typed print-outs in the recipe folder that has been here for many years.

Schultz's Solution (chlor-zinc-iodine)

20g Zinc chloride
9.5mL Distilled water

Dissolve in warm water, then cool. Add the following solution drop by drop until a persistent precipitate of iodine forms.

0.5g Iodine
1g Potassium iodide
20mL Distilled water

About 1.5mL of this iodine solution is required.

Hope this helps,
Liz
