I am wondering how you all store your long slinkys used for wave motion?

I currently store ours in a large draw, however they seem to get very tangled and it is such a headache trying to untangle them.

Thanks for any help on this subject.

Hi Vicky,
Last year I bought a slinky storage rack from Haines (about $30) which has solved my problem of tangles. Essentially it's a board with rods sticking up so if funds are limited perhaps someone in woodwork could knock one up for you. I have also purchased the safety glasses racks from Haines and installed them in the labs. Easy for the students to access and easy to see if any are missing at the end of the class.

I use glad cliplock bags slight larger than the sandwich size but smaller than A4.
Works well, keeps it all in one place.

We use old stockings, one per slinky, works well and allows transport between rooms easier than the board system

We store ours in old cans, eg. soup cans. Works well.

I have mine in a empty napisan container that way it is solid and the slinky does not get bent or tangled also the container has a lid.

I store mine in margarine containers.

A good way to store slinkys is to glue soft drink cans to a bit of wood
the slinkys fit over them and you can see at a glance if they are all there.
I have 10 on the board and store them on a shelf in the prep room.

I cut off the top of the box they come in and then put them in a draw

I sent out 4 slinkys of normal length for the lesson and one has come back over 1.5 Meters long!
I was going to chuck it out but after discussion and trying it out with another teacher we decided that it actually demonstrates waves rather well. Not that I am suggesting stretching your slinkys out but if it happens they end up making a good resource.

Yep, me too.

I purchased tool boxes from hardware shop. The long thin slinkys live in the bottom of the box, the shorter wider ones go into kliplock bags and sit in the top part of the tool box.. every Prep room has a toolbox.
We also have an extra- long stretched out slinky for class use, AND I bought a 5M long heavy ROPE - not nylon but jute type rope, which shows wave motion extremely well...
