Hi all,

Do I need to make up Iron III Nitrate fresh?
The prac is called "reversible and irreversible reactions", being used with Cobalt Chloride, Potassium Thiocyanate, Mg ribbon, steel wool.
I have some stock solution made up, but who knows when it was made!!

Mine is for tomorrow, so I'm going with the solution I already have.......... I'll let you know if it was ok!

I have this prac happening now and I had dropper bottles already made up. We are using them. So I will let you know what happens.

It worked!!

I'm sure it's only Iron (II) nitrate that needs to be made fresh. We've got droppers of Iron (III) nitrate that sit and wait to be used and no issues with it

I'd be convincing the teachers not to use Cobalt Chloride anymore...or just don't purchase any more. We have removed all Cobalt offsite and it's amazing when you tell them that it is not available to them what interesting ideas they come up with.
