Wondering if anyone can help me out looking for 1000 ml or greater interchangeable distillation flasks. Looking for a supplier also is there any restrictions or legislation regarding the purchase of larger equipment (as with certain chemicals)?
I've bought them from Science Supply (I think) or maybe Haines. Just be careful, someone bought a receiver adaptor last year when I was on leave and mustn't have checked the $120 price tag. I would have just used one kit for spare parts and saved the money. Just looked on SSA and they have simple kits for $140 with the only bits we ever really use here.
We mainly seem to be missing the glass stoppers that go in the top (both the closed and thermometer holder ones). I went through 6 kits the other day to find one! They have hardly been used since I've been here. Are they still a part of compulsory pracs? Maybe teachers are opting for easier/less expensive if broken type pracs.

I frequently forget SSA, despite always finding what I need when I eventually look them up!! 19/24 stoppers for $11 each. I spent about 2 hours searching online yesterday! Thermometer ones were harder to find (they are called Screwthread adapters) but they are $22 each. Now to check all the kits to make a few complete sets!
For any schools needing kits - the simple distillation apparatus looks great! We have the more complex looking ones (in cardboard boxes with foam - not a fancy case!) and there is just too much in there.
We have kits here, that are over 10 years old, possibly more, with some components still wrapped in plastic.
Here's another tip (gosh why do I feel like I'm on my death bed, sharing random bits of information before I go??): the spirit thermometers aren't accurate enough for the ester prac. My old HT liked using the mercury ones for the accuracy. I got onto kerosene thermometers (from Aim Scientific in Adelaide - Jim was really helpful with this). However, the kero ones didn't fit into the adaptor. All it needed was some different sized O rings and problem sorted. The HT was actually happy with the kero ones and I no longer had the stress of a mercury clean up! He was very sceptical at first but he was eventually convinced.
Years ago I got new components made up from Haines, the size available was not compatible with all my existing quick fit. Mine are 24/29. Haines were very helpful. Expensive though. I have never had the need for 1000ml flasks but have had some donated from a research facility.
