MSDSs, Storage, Handling, Transport, Labeling, computer management systems, and anything else to do with safety.

chemical register etc

Post by sampjm »

Are there schools out there using an alternative to chemwatch. If so how well are your needs met.
Just wondering what other schools may be using.

We have always well for over 18 years had our chemical register for Science on spread sheet or exel. The teachers like this one, if they want to looking up what chemical this school has. But we also have one with chemwatch.

I use Chemwatch for labels and some safety data sheets. The chemical manifest was on Chemwatch but I've been given the okay to transfer it to a spreadsheet. I will need to save it so there is remote access as well as keeping a hard copy in the office.

By having it on a spreadsheet, I can have the information in a clear format that everyone can understand. I can easily add chemicals/substances that aren't listed on the on-line mob. The advantage of Chemwatch is that it is easy to log on anywhere to gain access to the manifest.

I did not put it clear as I am wondering if there are any schools using a data base other than chemwatch.

I was approached recently by an australian company called "MSDS", they stated that they have a number of schools using their data base. So I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone is using it or something similar.

Wasn't there another post recently about this company? We use Chemwatch here, and don't see any need to change UNLESS something more specific to schools becomes available. What is the cost of this other company? Comparable to Chemwatch?

I had a call from them last week. They are called MSDS.com.au
As far as I know they are not school specific but competition to Chemwatch.
