Safety foot wear for staff

Hi Folks,

I do believe you would be a fool to work say in Science with out the correct foot wear, closed in leather shoes. Our OH&S party, have asked me if I know where it is written down, that all staff should wear closed in shoes?

Can any one quote me a page number from CSIS or some thing?
I am in NSW

Workcover Authority of NSW terms it as being "appropriate footware" which is open to interpretation. Appropriate for comfort or appropriate for safety? I wear enclosed confortable footwear, no their not full leather but on the other hand I do know of other labbies that wear sandal types that in the light of day aren't that good an idea. We had an OH&S issue at my old high school when I chaired the commitee. Similar circumstances - as the result of dropped equipment/splashed chemicals and we had to look into it and find a solution. We are on our feet almost all the time, so comfortable shoes are a must, although if the powers that be insist on enclosed leather footwear - try good quality hiking shoes/boots, I have and they work a treat.

Hope this helps!
Richard :-)
