Slime

I really need a simple recipe for SLIME. For about 200 students, can I make it up the day before? Do hope some one can help me.

Did that, but would like to hear from someone that has done it this year, as perhaps the stuff the teacher has given me is old, so its not working.

15ml 4% Borax solution
60ml 50/50 solution PVA glue /water (mixed well)
food colouring

( you can 1/2 these amounts)

I use plastic cups and a paddle pop stick to stir. Stir together until it "sets"
Worked well earlier this year.

I use the same stuff but we put it in a small zip lock bags that way the kids can take it home and no mess

We bought PVA glue that a previous head teacher recommended so I'm not sure. Hi Grip PVA woodwork adhesive from OfficeMax.
I assume any PVA woodwork glue would work.

Yep as with noona we do this in zip lock bags. Then the kids can squish it around with their hands without getting everything sticky. I think the recipe we use is like what Rae posted, but the kids make it up as part of the experiment so I'm not sure of the proportions myself. We use solid Borax though.

we use the clear gum glue. Clear water based adhesive.
1:1 with water and add borax solution. Plastic cups with paddle pop sticks. Kids even bring glitter. One group did blue colour with silver glitter. You guessed it "frozen" slime

Do the slime search and look on page 5. I have posted a recipe for slime which we always use now for open days etc. It uses Clag clear gum, sorbolene hand lotion with 10% glycerine in the formula, extra glycerine in dropper bottles, food colour and saturated borax solution. The best sorbolene hand lotion is Plunketts. Enya hand lotion will give you something a little more shimmery. Mix in plastic cups with paddle pop sticks and take slime home in a ziplock bag. I don't know how to transfer the info to this current date.

Found the clear gum glue works everytime, as the PVA varies in content from different brands, so its hit and miss.

This recipe works quite well (& is cheap!)
2 cups cornflour, food colouring, small mixing bowl, 1.5 cups water.
Pour cornflour into bowl. Stir in small amounts water until cornflour becomes a very thick paste. Stir in food colouring. Stir slime slowly and then really fast. Keeps for several days if kept covered.

PVA glue is polyvinyl acetate and using this makes silly putty, not slime. PVA for slime is polyvinyl alcohol. We use 20mL 5% PVA (polyvinyl alcohol) solution, some food dye to colour it and glitter if you want it. Then add 5mL 4% borax and mix, then put the result in a ziploc bag. I've got another recipe that uses PVA powder and borax powder but this needs a hotplate too so it's a bit more fiddly than the other one but the result is a little better

HI There,

I think this would be my first post ever. But in regards to slime there is a super easy one which is Metamucil 1 table spoon and 1 cup water add food dye of choice heat for 4 mins until thick and gooey. Remove from heat and cool. Also note that due to being fibre you have to transfer from the beaker into another vessel as it keeps cooking and can burn the original container.

Here's the two recipes we use, one with psyllium, one using guar gum (from health food stores):

Add small amount of food colouring to 200mL water in beaker
Heat until bubbles start to form
Add 2 heaped teaspoons of psyllium husks
Stir continuously until it forms a sticky/gooey consistency (like snot) (the boys love this description!)
Turn off bunsen. Continue stirring until beaker cool enough to move to heat mat
Allow to cool completely

90 mls water
10mls glycerol
2 drops food colour
1 spatula guar gum
Stir well until evenly mixed
Add 10 mls saturated Borax solution (10g/100mls water)
Stir vigorously for 10mins, adding Borax solution 1 mL at a time, until the desired consistency is reached
