Innoculating loops

Post by melissa »

I have been trying to embed wire into capillary tubing by heating glass with flame. I can fire polish ends of glass without problem but as soon as wire is inserted the glass cracks. I have tried preheating the glass without success. I know innoculating loops are relatively cheap but we have all materials on hand. Can any of you learned people tell me what I'm doing wrong? :-?

I just push the nicro wire into the glass rod as far as it goes and it seems to stay put. I have never heated the glass rod.It tends to go down as much as 1/4 of the length of glass tubing.

Only did some the other day. Pushed in 2 or 3 cms. Heated all together and squeezed with pliers. Are you using nicrome wire? Try a different sort of wire maybe if you think that may be the problem.
