In my former life, training drug dogs, I used to have to go & buy bulk amounts of unlubricated condoms, and then ask for a receipt "they're for work" :w00t: until I finally protested and arranged to order them in bulk from Ansell!

One teacher asked me for my phone number so if he needed to know what stock we had over the weekend he didn't have to go into work!!

8O

Another once wanted to know if we had any ovary boards. After a little 'Men from Mars Women from Venus' conversation I worked out he meant emery!!

:cheesy:

Think Lyssavirus, Hendra Virus - both diseases transferable to humans, and fatal. 8O

Fortunately my small dead bat went into a specimen jar long before the mention of lyssavirus and hendra virus.

we were to have a lock down followed by a evac parctice yesterday last period/
It was cancelled during 2nd last period for various reasons, an all page came over the phones and it was annouced over the school PA sdystem.

All students went to class for last period.

20 mins into the lesson the teacher from next door to my prep room came in and asked at what time did i think the lock down would be over....UM.....there was no bell to indicate the start of the lockdown....he just walked his yr 7 class in, sat them under the desks and waited.

Thats special!
I did wait til he left the room before i burst out laughing.

and I suppose, sunray, that any chocoaltes in the area do not meet student or teachers' standards.
So you are doing them a monumentous favour by confiscating them :D

I was searching through the posts for the spread of disease pracs and came across this post. I bet nobody asks for dead bats anymore! Ewww....

(Edit: After reading the whole thread I realise this was in response to the previous post where a teacher brought the labbie a dead bat. But still, I don't reckon anyone is touching dead bats these days!)

Thanks for resurrecting this one Rosalie. I love the teacher who asked for the labbie's phone number so they could check on stock over the weekend!

Not so much a weird thing, but I think a good forum to rant - at one of my past schools, the Year 7 lockers were in the Science block. Year 7 being Year 7 were always having trouble with their padlocks requiring adult intervention. One teacher told me I should take my breaks during class time so I'm there to sort out padlocks. But then another teacher complained that I wasn't around during class and I should be taking my breaks at the regular time.

First opportunity I was out of that school!

At a High School (7-10) that I worked at, I used to be in charge of cutting spare locker keys and then we moved to combination locks and I was in charge of trying to make those work and make the students and teachers know how they worked. I was also required to paint the wooden locker doors and repair metal locker doors. That lasted a few years then I asked other Lab. Techs if they did that type of thing and then I got the Union involved and that promptly ended. Soon after that they High School found that they had 'too much laboratory technician time' for the number of students and I was moved on 'as I had been there the longest'. I now work at a College (11-12) and with students who actually want to be in Science rather than being forced to do it and I would not look back, best thing is I did not have to interview for the job

I remembered something I thought was strange: pony beads. Not being a crafty kind of person, I had no idea what a pony bead was until I had to work with a teacher who liked to demonstrate lots of things via craft. Look, it was probably really effective, but the teacher made such a big deal about it, I still feel panicked every time I hear the term "pony beads".
I'm off to get some more counselling... 8O

Thanks to Stile which has pre-entered pracs on Riskassess, I've been asked for "transparent metric ruler without sloped or bevelled edges". Really? All I have are rulers with sloped edges, at least they're transparent.
Does anyone else have to deal with Stile pracs? From what I hear, Stile is great resource for teachers and was especially useful with covid lockdown, but the pracs! It often asks for individual containers, labelled for each group. It also uses a lot of household products, especially Years 7-8. Fine if I have it on hand, but often, no I don't and have to go and spend money on throw away stuff when we have a whole storeroom of equipment :banghead:
