pracs and recipes

Just inquiring to see if any one can be of assistance my head teacher is looking for some pracs to do with calcium carbide ( to watch it glow or something) thought you wonderful people might have some exciting ideas. :crazy:

IT should only be used for years 11 & 12 or so the CSIS says. Google a few, their are some out their.

I have a slight recollection that calcium carbide is a banned substance in public schools!!!

Yeah, do a check (not that I know where you should look) but isn't heating calcium carbide a "naughty" now?

i have attached a list of banned chemicals in NSW Det schools :thumbup: - you can also find this on the DET intranet site.

Re banned chemicals, is there a vic deecd list? I haven't been able to find one. I didn't see toluene on the NSW list, but I'll take more care with the white phosphorus demos (if the dare devil teachers will listen) and maybe piff the potassium chlorate, altho' I thought we still used it.mtg

Thanks eggman. Looking at the list we obviously have a chem teacher working for DEECD.
