I have a staff member who has asked me to find some EDTA and Erichrome Black-T. I am fairly new to this and have no idea what these are. Can anyone tell me what they are and where I would be able to buy them. Thank you for all your help.

EDTA full name is Ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid sodium salt or disodium ethylene etc. So look for that on your shelves. Erichrome black is also known as mordant black and is an indicator used with EDTA for the titration of calcium and magnesium ions. If you don't have them on your shelves, tell your teacher that they will have to be purchased from a chemical supplier like Westlab as Smiley said.

You always learn something new on this site!!
We have had EDTA on the shelf for years and years and years. Last year we had an OH&S inspired clean up of our chemical cupboad. As NOBODY knew what the EDTA was for, I think we tossed it.
We titrate with phenolphthalein.
