Solubility issues

Post by Ocean Breeze »

I have been given an experiment that calls for 1 Molar Barium Nitrate.
MW= 261

Solubility is 10g/100ml.
I need 250 ml of the 1 M
thats 65.4 g.
No more than 25 g will dissolve in the water.
Why dont they just ask for a saturated soln?

It's cause they don't know. I agree that you would expect that they should know - I mean the teachers and the text book writers. I got asked for the same thing a week or so back and made them settle for saturated. But wasted heaps of chemical - oh well, worse could happen I suppose.

I remember being asked for that last year. I had it heating on the magnetic stirrer all day!
