neutralising NaOH with H Cl

Post by Ocean Breeze »

I am sure this question is old hat, but I need to ask it again

How much and what conc of Na OH do we need to neutralise 0.1 M/L of H Cl
Is it 1:1? 2:1?

Yes it is 1:1
For 0.1M HCl and 0.1M NaOH is 1:1
20ml of HCl to 20ml of NaOH

Read a ridiculous experiment on the net, that suggested (truthfully I suppose) that if you titrated NaOH & HCl accurately, you would make salt water, and it would be neutral. Then you could drink it in front of the class!!! 8O :yuck: 8O

I vote No.

Mind you, on occasions, there are teachers to whom I could suggest this prac. Or better still, we could use Mr Filch (not his real name) our janitor as the victim, oh I mean demonstrator.

Cheers, K 8-)
