Crude Oil recipe

Post by Robb »

Hi All,

Just to re-iterate what juliem has mentioned as there are a few recipes for the make up of artificial Crude Oil. Crude Oil which occurs naturally has so many components it is just not feasible to get it remotely close.

But I will list a recipe I have here. Like most qualitative recipes this recipe is open for discussion.

The ingredients I have listed are to allow for the ease of purchase and separation:

Diesel 50mL
Petroleum (distilled to remove the dye) 50mL
High Temp Grease 2 even spatulas
Mineral Turps 50mL
Ethanol 50mL

As you can see this is quite Flammable, so take this into serious consideration. The volumes seem minimal but this is to reduce the final amount.

I have used this in the past, but with the use of Heating Mantles rather than direct Flame contact for obvious reasons...

Hope this has been helpful.
