Specimen jars

Post by bindibadgi »

Does anyone know where I can get some large specimen display jars/bottles like these? [-o<
Jars 004.jpg
I have some creatures in old bottles that I want to refresh & put in new containers, & searching my regular suppliers & the web hasn't turned up anything.

Cheers,

The jar on the right looks like a Reagent bottle Wide mouth 250ml - so for that one look under R. I'm sure all stockists have those.

Bindi,

Check your messages. (I was going to write pm's but it looked too much like a hormonal condition! :cheesy: )

For everyone else, look up australian made glassware and go to the "homewares" section. There's a good range of preserving jars that could hold our kind of preserving, as much as other people's fruit & veg!

Hi all.
We have these little specimen containers on the left (one on the right for comparison)
But the lids are starting to crack .
We use them a lot for aliquots of solid Chemicals .
Does anyone know where they come from ?

Dunno where they came from, but probably biological specimen jars. I found some kinda similar.

https://www.labdirect.com.au/sample-con ... on-of-126/

The link is for the 500mL version, but there are zillions of sizes.

Thanks , yes I have tried Googling it but never found the exact same ones ....not that it matters .
They are small . 1 fluid once , which I discovered is = 16 Dram . Apparently Drams were a measure used by chemists in the old days .

Seems they are commonly used as Pill containers but I could only find Yellow ones .
Must get back onto it .

So if 1 dram is equal to 1/16 of a fluid ounce, how much is a "wee dram" then? :cheesy:

They look a similar size to the old photo film canisters. We had a whole big box of them, probably from our photography teacher. They were mostly opaque though so you wouldn't be able to see inside. Still got used for the "fun" prac with bicarb and vinegar, the lid would pop off.
