Smeg dishwasher GW0160

Post by nickykinz »

Hi all
We have just had new labs built and in the prep room they have installed a fancy shmancy SMEG dishwasher. While I’m very happy to have such a lovely dishwasher it only comes with the basic racks, which are basically just open baskets. So we need to buy some of the racks that go in there to be able to use it properly.
Does anyone happen to have a SMEG GW0160 dishwasher that would be happy to give me some insight into which racks are worth getting? They are very expensive so I want to make sure we are getting the ones that are worthwhile having.

My only advice is load it just before you use it . Pretty dishwashers become corroded pieces of s#%t very quickly if they are used to store dirty glassware

Oh wow. I just had a look. What a machine!!! Sorry I can't offer advice on racks. With the right combination, you might never wash anything up again!

hi Nickykinz

it is very fancy Shmancy!
Could you ask the company for loaner accessories to trial out?
Otherwise it really depends on what you think you will be mostly washing in there.
Maybe use it for a while and see what you think you might need to suit.
I hope that has helped you a bit.

Cheers

Thanks everyone. Just trying to find info on the racks isn't easy as there isn't much info on any websites. But i have found a couple of local lab techs who have the same dishwasher who have been able to point me in the right direction. Fingers crossed.
Looking forward to minimal washing up in the future :clap3:

Thanks, I will try and do this. We also have metal sinks which get messed up very quickly when the students do the wrong thing so i will need to keep an eye on those too.

Morning,

Nickykinz, I have had a Smeg GW0160 for a couple of years, and yes very fancy shmancy. Personally for the money it costs, and school usage, a domestic dishwasher is more then adequate but I appreciate "the powers that be" like to feel they are choosing top of the line eqipment.

Secondly, i perchased from Haines a Dishwasher test tube rack which squeezes into the bottom open rack which I leave there permanently.

For the top rack, I had someone who was throwing away their dishwasher and was able to ask my maintenence guys to cut one of the racks up to fit the top so I could use it more practically. I will try and attach photos shortly, but this was the only way I could make use of the dishwasher. other than perhaps using baskets. Hope this helps,

Yes, i agree. I really don't need one that fancy. Especially as it incurs all the extra expense with buying racks etc.. I do have a plastic test tube rack and a cutlery holder from an old dishwasher that I can use but it's just a pain not to be able to use it easily. Once I've got it up and running I'm sure I'll be happy. :D

Thanks :-)

Hi,

I have one of these dishwashers and I am about to run out of dishwashing powder, just wondering what sort of powder do you use in it, I currently have some sort of commercial grade powder that my previous labby purchased a few years ago.
Thanks :)
