Re: Dresden ??? jar
Here's one I prepared earlier mtg
How to post a Pic on Chemtalk Forum
Don't forget the bit about Clicking "Full Editor and preview " button first .
EDIT: Was wondering if it maybe a Leyden Jar you were thinking of ?
The very old ones were Glass ,foil or metal on outside .Either foil on inside but often were full of Mercury .

Re: Dresden ??? jar
pic:
it has an outlet spot on top for a very small tube? And inside is a capillary tube like thing, so it must invert and displace something I think.

Re: Dresden ??? jar
Its a curly one mtg.
The upside down measurements are unique.
I even tried putting it into google image search.
Best I could find was an image on something similar .It was used in early Blood transfusions .May not even be close . I found a similar new glass product called a glass buffer flow bottle . Can’t seem to find a name for your one .

Re: Dresden ??? jar
I would love to see a pic of the top and also of the rubber bung removed to have a better look at it but,
I think the name is Dreschel Bottle
It also seems to be called a Dressel bottle and a Drechsler bottle
It is a Gas washing Jar as far as I can tell .
The inverted level marks I think just happened to be on the Particular bottle that was put into use .
Duran make a similar bottle with both an autoclavable version and a screw top .
I suspect it was a piece of apparatus made up for a prac at some stage .A useful apparatus that has many uses so it would seem .

Re: Dresden ??? jar
Solution from an ex teacher. It is a transfusion bottle. From the old days when blood transfusions were done with glass bottles. The Bung top has 2 options for either metal or plastic insert. A small hole.
There is the long glass tube within to breathe so as to allow it to run when upside down.
