Alternative to film canisters for rockets?
Alternative to film canisters for rockets?
A teacher as asked to do the film canister rocket experiment. Obviously I have no film canisters. Does anyone have an alternative suggestion?

It's getting harder to get film canisters, but sometime I'm able to pick some up from the photo labs at Big W, Kmart or Office Works. I haven't really tried the other Photo Labs though

If you can't find a supply of canisters, google - bubble bomb - which uses ziplock bags, bicarb wrapped in paper towel and vinegar. Make sure that the prac is done outside otherwise you will have an almighty mess in the lab.

I've used Berocca cans with outstanding success. You can either drop the tablet into a can with about 2cm of water in it, and slam them down lid down to the concrete, and watch the tins go skyward, or hold them in your hands and watch the lids fly off. We even run a bit of a "change the variable" experiment with them. Kids have to change the amount of water, the temperature of the water, the number of Aspro clear, the angle of trajectory etc.
Cheers, K

Does anyone know if berocca still comes in cans suitable for this purpose? 2012 was a long time ago!

Science Supply Australia and Omega Scientific both sell film canisters as well. A bit more expensive, but might work out for you.

Hi,
Very easy solution, just go to any Chemists and ask for a small plastic tablets bottles or canister the small can they dispense tablets for prescriptions, or just buy heaps of small Blackmores Vitamin C Effervescent tablets and you should be fine and all set.
Thanks.
