Hi All,
We have been using Dissection connection since 2012. Now for some reason they want to be paid fortnightly instead of monthly unfortunately which my school can't do, due to the volume of invoices they get.
So I need to source another company that can do it. Does anyone know a another reliable suppliers of brains, hearts, kidneys & plucks?
Has anyone else had this trouble with Dissection connection?

I'd tell them that you will have to take your business elsewhere as your accounts system doesn't fit in with theirs. I think they would find a lot of people would be in the same situation so they might end up losing too much business if they stick to their guns on this.
Have you tried your local butcher? Ask around a few and see if there are any willing to help you out. I use a local butcher, he was recommended by another labbie and he is really helpful. He sometimes as problems with the abattoirs but seems to understand what we need.
We buy our brains from a local butcher, and get our hearts & plucks from the abattoirs for free! I'd suggest making a few calls to see what your local suppliers offer...
I get everything from the local abattoirs, sometimes still quite warm. Thats really yukky, especially when you pick up a pluck and it gurgles and froth comes out the oesophagus!

Common problem, Bigmack. I think the abattoirs have to do this to check for disease/parasites. I usually have the top section chopped off too. Teachers complain but without buying from someone like Dissection Connection (expensive) I can't guarantee. We have used a specialist supplier for Biology classes but don't bother for juniors although the supplier didn't have any earlier in the year.
Don't bother buying brains anymore. The abattoir uses jets of water to remove them now and they come out in pieces. I've had a real job trying to get whole brains for the last two years.

I think you are right Merilyn and ottenC. Certainly all the ones I've got that were sold through butchers for Human consumption had been sliced like that .
Interesting that these I ordered as offal were not sliced for inspection ..other than the few that slasher had attacked .
I guess I can't complain . I got 26 out of 30 that were good . It cost me $40 freight to the local butchers ..that's about @1.50 each .Would have been better value if all 30 were intact but hey .
Coles have ones with the top cut off , so basically not worth dissecting @ about $2.30 each
still better that 6 for $35 from Dissection Connection .
For the first time ever we have to do an order form for the abattoirs for eyes-$2 and brains $8, we get brains from the butcher or supermarket anyway, hearts, plucks and blood free from the abattoirs, and as we are a school they don't cut them much, usually.
Wow, I guess I haven't realised how lucky we are - one of the few advantages of being rural.
We get our hearts, lungs, plucks, digestive tracts and eyeballs FREE!!! from the local abattoirs. We do have to buy brains, but I have discovered which of our local butchers get the frozen ones that are wrapped separately, and are intact to the point they even have a bit of brain stem still attached. We also buy kidneys and livers from the same butcher and they are quite intact as well.
I have been asked to order in some hearts, eyes and kidneys for dissections. I haven't ordered these in before as we've always had stock in the freezer and was wondering where you ladies/gents order them from?

I found a local butcher that can supply kidneys and hearts, but it did take time finding them. Scored a discount on them too as I told them I'm purchasing them for school dissections. I've purchased eyes from Southern Biological because I can't seem to find them at any butcher or abattoirs in my area.
