Hi everyone,
just wanted you all to know that westlabs generic ALUM aluminum potassium sulfate label on the container is different to the SDS.
The label says its corrosive and exclamation mark but the sds says non hazardous and non dangerous.
I have been trying to rectify this since last year.
Have a great day labbies

Re: aluminium potassium sulfate from westlab
Alum is usually non-hazardous, one of the reasons it is used for crystal growing. The label is definitely wrong, talk about over kill.
Although, we do crystal growing with Year 6 after school in T2. They are so noisy, excited and full on. Now if it is actually hazardous, we won't be able to do this. Maybe I should buy some from Westlab...

I really cannot deal with 11 year olds at 2.30 in the afternoon! I'm expected to help out - it is in work time so can't really refuse. Some of the kids are really sweet but there is always a couple that are just so over powering!!
Guess I'll look for another reason...

Hey Merilyn1
just buy the chemical from westlab and show them the label where it says its corrosive and dangerous then, and the little ones cant use it.

Re: aluminium potassium sulfate from westlab
I just grabbed out an old MSDS. It says it contains Sulphuric acid, (composition: Sulphuric acid, Aluminium Potassium salt ) it also says hazardous. Mallinckrodt chemicals USA. WARNING harmful if swallowed or inhaled, causes irritation to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothing. It is stored under stable. The proceedure to make it seems to vary with manufacturers. I have another risk assessment that says it's not hazardous to health but can cause irritation. You can get it from Bunnings too.

We have recently redesigned the labels and the new shipment arriving in the next few weeks will be Non-Classified.superbug wrote: ↑10 Feb 2022, 11:25 Hi everyone,
