Crystal gardens. What makes yellow or orange?

MSDSs, Storage, Handling, Transport, Labeling, computer management systems, and anything else to do with safety.

Crystal gardens. What makes yellow or orange?

Post by Ocean Breeze »

The yr 12 Chemists are just now making their crystal gardens. Working out well, excepting a few artistic students have noted that it lacks any orange and yellow growths.
Can anyone suggest a salt that will "grow" a yellow and an orange?

We have green(nickel), red (cobalt), white, blue(copper) and brown(iron)
Thanks guys

Here is a list of salts and colours:
White - calcium chloride
White - lead (II) nitrate
Purple - manganese (II) chloride
Blue - copper (II) sulfate
Red - cobalt (II) chloride
Pink - manganese (II) chloride
Orange - iron (III) chloride
Yellow - iron (III) chloride
Green - nickel (II) nitrate

Hope this helps
