Substitution Of Calcium Acetate

Post by vic »

Hi Guys,

One of the teachers here would like a exp that has the students doing a solubility exp with calcium acetate. Were you add the calcium the cold water heat it watch it dissolve and dissolve more etc untill you aren't able to dissolve anymore then you are to repeat with copper sulfate.

I don't have calcium acetate in my store and i don't have enough time to order some and have it here by monday p4 (got given this one this morning....hmmmm.....).

Am i able to substitute the calcium acetate with sodium or ammonium acetate or anyhting else??

thanks

Hi Vic,

A good substitute in this example would be Sodium Thiosulfate.

Or Idealistically Strontium Acetate would suit but I guess availability would allude you.

The Sodium Thiosulfate would certainly get you out of trouble.

Cheers,
