Water Stills

Post by Cin »

Our old IEC Water Still has died. I would like to know what type of water still people have? I see that 'Omega' have one called Water Still 4Lt/Hr non glass design. Also 'Serrata' have a Stainless Steel 4.5Lt/Hr. Does anyone have these and are they ok?

Look forward to your replies

Water stills were banned during the water ban's we had a few years ago. As they use too much water to get the distilled water. So I do know the Meto area has to order our distilled water from a company close to your school. I have checked with the Prinicipal and he said, he believes it is still in force.

We use a deioniser not a still. Water is perfectly acceptable for Senior Chemistry. No wastage.
Its a Elgastat. Just replace the cartridge and a battery every now and then!

IEC here, I make up a heap of water at the start of the year. And usually only have to do it once a term. I have relaxed a bit though, and use tap water for some non analytical experiments now, to save water. (Labelled accordingly).
