growing pond weed

I have not been able to find pond weed to replace Elodea. NSW schools cannot use it as it is banned in this state.
What are peolpe using when you do the pracs to look at the "Products of Photosynthesis" and "The rate of photosynthesis" Science Focus 2.

The pet shop sold me Hydrilla instead.Grows in fish tanks. Looks very much like elodea and acts the same way in the experiment but is not a toxic weed.
