What oil do you use tiwht this? I have never used one and a teacher said that he needed oil with it?

It depends what kind of microtome you have and what you want to cut. But if it is a handheld one and you are cutting something like plant stems you do not need oil.

If you have a hand held microtome the teacher probably requires paraffin wax to put the specimen in. Look for "hand-held microtome instructions" on internet. Southern Biological have a nice set of instructions to print out. Or maybe he requires oil to lubricate the assembly before using. In which case machine oil would do the job or WD-40 if the microtome is a little rusty.
