coding of HCL

Post by Rita »

Hi All
CSIS has for Hydrochloric acid:

>4M <10M suitable 11-12

>0.2M <4M suitable 7-12

My question is ""What do you class 4M as being suitable for?"

Seriously, the strongest you would supply to Yr 7 is 4M

I interpret it as 4M HCl OK for yr 11-12 ; not for 7-12. Same for 1M NaOH.

What would you need 4M HCl for juniors anyway? 2M is more than enough.
4M for 11-12.

Beat me to it Lada, I was about to ask the very same question? Perhaps it was just a general question?

Thanks everyone.
I had made the 4M for seniors only and teacher wasn't impressed. He doesn't like the dilute solutions, prefers 2M or 4M to hasten the reactions. Uses stronger HCl with Magnesium or Zinc (mainly for pop test).

We use only 1M HCl with Mg for pop test and you can hear down the corridor. Do not need anything stronger.

For marble chips and Zn we do use 2 M .It works faster, but not 4M 8O for juniors (7-9).
