Belt repairs

Post by brockway »

I've another query. I need to replace the belts on the dynamo models. I have neoprene leather and need to join the ends. I've tried melting them with the bunsen burner and canle but so far hvae been unsuccessful. Has anyone got any hints? Brockway

Belt Repairs

Post by ri »

Dear Sharon,
I've done leather repairs in the past and I've found that one can put a small hole near the end of the 2 loose ends with a sharp probe or an awl. I then join them with linen thread via a sewing needle using a reef knot.
To waterproof the linen thread, it can be pulled over a chunk of beeswax or a candle which will improve the durability.
Unfortunately, I have never handled neoprene leather.
Good Luck!
