Post by kl23 »

Hi everyone,

Just a quick question. We have just brought some slime moulds and i need to sub-culture them onto new agar plates. Can someone please explain how to do this as i have never done this before. Thanks.

This should only be done using aseptic techniques under supervision of a teacher experienced in microbiology techniques. (in NSW anyway). I guess once you are shown, you would then be experienced. But be careful with airborne bits and pieces, as these are easily carried on air currents etc.

Hi Kerry

There's a section in 'The Laboratory' by Barbara Dungey on subculturing. I don't have time to reproduce it at the moment, but if you don't have that book (an essential reference for all of us) I could photocopy the pages this afternoon and fax them to you if you give me the number.

Just let me know
