Hi Suzyr,

If I could just ask why you wish to make up an acidic Solution of this..

If it is the solution I am thinking about I will have to give you some more info.

Acidified Potassium Dichromate

Hi Suzyr,

We always use 0.2M rather than 0.1M, but the recipe is as follows:

0.2M Potassium dichromate
Acidified with 25% Sulfuric acid at 1g acid/10ml dichromate

Acidifying Potassium Dichromate

Hi Suzyr,

Just to re-iterate what JudyM has mentioned, I would not go any higher in concentrations of 0.2M - 0.5M.

This is due to the fact that you are producing Chromic Acid. This acid at higher concentrations is Toxic and is known as a Carcinogenic compound. very Corrosive and Very poisonous.

Hope this helps..

chromic acid produced

Post by Mother »

For all of you out in Chemtalk land.
Robb is correct in saying Chromic Acid is produced when Potassium Dichromate is acidified. You also need to know that Chromic Acid is banned in all Public Schools!!!! Chemical Safety In Schools Vol.2 explains why, in greater depth.
