Post by mtg »

Is there any animal cell we can prepare? I can't think of any. I have prepared slides, but just got asked with chicken queried.

You could simply with a piece of meat... however unless you have a microtome to cut it thinly enough, you won't make a very good slide. You could try a scraping but generally the cells will be distorted so there isn't much point really.

Science Assist have an SOP for preparing animal and plant cell slides. The animal cells come from kidneys or fresh steak. The SOP details how to prepare both plant and animal cells. Have a look and download the SOP so you don't have to think about preparing one yourself. It even has instructions for preparing both iodine and methylene blue stains.
