Why you should attend CONASTA 67, to be held in Sydney from 8-11 July 2018

Networking: As the major national science education event in Australia CONASTA 67 provides delegates with the perfect opportunity to build networks with like-minded science educators and to exchange ideas about science teaching and learning. The conference Welcome Function, to be held at the Australian Museum is a great occasion for people to make new contacts and reconnect with old ones. Other networking events include the traditional Science Breakfast, the Conference Banquet to be held at the National Maritime Museum located on picturesque Darling Harbour; and the Happy Hours at the close of each day.

Keynote speakers: The keynote sessions will feature prominent Australian and international scientists including: Dr Tanya Latty, entemologist at the University of Sydney; Professor Richard Garrett, Senior Adviser Australian Nuclear Science and Technology Organisation (ANSTO); Professor Dietmar Muller, geologist, University of Sydney; Dr Jeanette Hurst, Senior Science Communicator in Chemistry, University of Sydney; Dr Brad Tucker, Astrophysicust and Cosmologist, Australian National University; Dr Christine Preston, Lecturer in Science Education, University of Sydney; Ms Shannon Foster, D'harawal Saltwater Knowledge Keeper, University of Sydney; Professor Peter Mahaffy, Kings University Canada; Professor Stephen Matlin, International Organisation for Chemical Sciences in Development; and Professor Lisa Harvey Smith, award winning Astrophysicist at the CSIRO who will be giving the Stanhope Oration.

Professional Development: The theme 'Spotlight on our future' will be explored through many of our workshops. With nearly 130 workshops available, there should be something of interest and value to all science educators. Some of the workshops available include: STEM without breaking the budget, Hooking girls into STEM, Practical science in primary schools, Towards fluency in the language of science: aligning concepts and curriculum in maths and science. Workshops are starting to fill up, so don’t delay your registration another day as you might be disappointed.

Save you money: Early bird rates are available till 31 May. Delegates can save $100 by registering now. Another saving can be had through cheap airfares. With flights to Sydney from some of our major cities under $100 (one way) what are you waiting for!

Sydney: Sydney has so much to offer! Enjoy Sydney's natural beauty, from unspoilt beaches to public gardens and of course, the sparkling harbour, before discovering its amazing museums, restaurants and thriving markets. The post conference program has some amazing tours including a one day tour to visit ANSTO followed by a luncheon cruise down a scenic rivers, tours to Taronga Zoo and the Powerhouse Museum, and an incredible two day food and wine tour to Mudgee where you will visit and sample some amazing wine, then on to Jenolan Caves and finally to the Blue Mountains.

And if that is not reason enough for you to attend CONASTA in Sydney, in addition to the wonderful PD opportunities offered at CONASTA 67, on the Wednesday of the program, we will be sharing the venue and the program with the International Conference on Chemistry Education, providing all delegates with the opportunity to move freely between the two events and programs.

What are you waiting for?
