embedded specimens

Post by Kathryn »

After such a fantastic workshop at last years St Mary's conference, I was asked to try embedding a seadragon which a student found on the beach while on an excursion. After much experimenting with smaller specimens, I finally got the courage to try the sea horse. First attempt was a disaster as I had not reduced the catalyst proportion and the resin cracked. I patiently chiped him out and started again this time being very cautious. I'm very proud of the results and everyone comments on them when they come into the prep room. Very difficult to take photos of and marks in the resin seem to show up more than they do in real life. - Anyway here's a couple of pictures so I can show off my work!

Thanks for your kind comments - they are lovely aren't they :D :D
Definately speak to Rosalie if you are wanting more info on how to do it, she is the pro, I'm an amateur. The little ones were easier than I expected, the seahorse was more chanllanging. Buffing them up so they look nice takes a lot of time and arm power!
