Re: whole school chemical audit
The SAM believes people will use their mobile phones too look it up, so the power won't be a problem. Internet on the other hand... I would assume in such an emergency that a teacher would use they're own credit to look up the SDS on their own data if there was a need.

Re: Finding the unknown solution
the ones I'm about to do are hazardous, though it is a senior class. it is also part of our end of year prac exam for 2 year groups, at which point they are labelled a, b, c and I email the identification to the year groups teacher, but that may not always be the teacher supervising the prac. I know...

Finding the unknown solution
Hi All, Not sure if I'm putting this in the correct thread, but here it goes. Is there any concern with handing out chemicals labelled unknown to students? My teachers ask for it all the time, so the students can figure out what the unknown solution is, but I'm wondering about the risks involved in ...

Re: whole school chemical audit
I agree, I did warn the SAM that it is a stupid system, but the marketing company got to him and all he could do was sing they're praises. Was like hitting my head against a brick wall. And yes, we have no more paper SDS in the school. The theory was people would sooner google it on their phones tha...

I have, had a chemistry teacher use a scaple to scrape the striker edges for the chemical so he could make touch powder. The boxes looked the same but couldn't light a match

Re: whole school chemical audit
The SAM here decided to ditch paper and put everything on Chemwatch, they hired me in during the school holidays (yay casual pay), and I did the whole school with the SAM and some of the admin staff when they had time. Now every department does their own (ok, I doubt that anyone but me is doing thei...

I buy a large bag of smarties and sort all the brown ones out for the prac. You can also use felt tip pens or permanent markers

Re: Christmas themed prac's for yr6 visits
Radioactive decay with red and green M&M's? Radioactive decay prac was planned but the only M&M's I could find were the Christmas themed ones so I just sorta went with it.

I don't know, that's why I was asking. I've got 2 big folders labelled CSIS and assumed it was current. I work in an independent school too but I don't know where to get a new version or how to check if a new version even exists
