Re: Risk Assessment

I tell my teachers that they need a Risk Assess becasue if something happens and a student is injured that they are responsible (not me). I also remiind them of the new workplace manslaughter laws.

We have a mix in our labs... kids just grab randomly. Have never had a teacher ask for one or the other.

Re: storage of H2O2

Store in fridge and out of light. I would also minimise the head space in it. We buy the smaller bottle so we don't have it on the self for more than 3 months... we use a lot. It does drop very fast in concentration once opened.

Re: Tips for next year

I got my hands on a copy of the week to week curriculum plan for each year level and gone through all the pracs and lessons. So I know exactly when each year level is doing what topic and what pracs are required for each. I have spent a bit of time looking at it because I only started a few months ...

Re: White crystal around sodium hydroxide solution bottles

Thank you Lyn and Merilyn. There was a fair bit of it accumulated there and I hadn't noticed it before. I wasn't sure about handling it? I've attached a picture. I hadn't noticed it before today but I'm not in the habit of going into the chem storeroom if I don't have to. Goodness what a mess. I su...

Re: Posters and Models for Biology

We purchase a lot of the Eisco brand, also through Haines. They get them in for us from the UK. Usually have to wait 8-10 weeks. Southern are good at sourcing the 3B Scientific models as they are an agent for them.

Geeez those poor kids. I hope they recover quickly. Teacher would be feeling terrible right now, I feel for all of them. Hopefully they can have some learnings out of this horrid experience.

I tend to tore our chemicals with the sealed caps and only swap over to the rubber droppers for use in class. Got sick of all the droppers perishing.

Cactus, 3D printing is so versatile once you learn the design workflow! I'm trying to convince the HOD to buy the department a printer, but I've been using my home one in the meantime. My favourite applications are replacing lost bits (like tape measure handles) and class set holders. Here are some...

I have worked in Weipa, not as a school lab tech (for the mines). It is an excellent place to live if you like the climate. Feel free to PM me if anyone wants specific info on what it's like to live there. Big remote living tax breaks, but also comes with the cost of living remotely. Excellent work ...

yes make sure there is no headspace. You could pop the bottle under vacuum in a desiccator also after cooling to be super sure however probably not needed.
