Re: Radiation cans
Thanks, I'll look into making them out of coke cans if I don't find them before they're needed again!

Re: van der graaf manual
Thanks all. It's just different to the ones I've used previously. There's no hole to stand the wand in and has an alligator clip and banana plug attached. I was just wanting to make sure we were setting it up correctly. It has worked well so I guess we did!

Re: Radiation cans
I still haven't found them but the teacher came up with an alternative... We are hopefully getting new labs in the next year or two so I am sure I will find plenty of gems when we move in!

Re: Radiation cans
Oh that makes more sense. I was imagining 175mm diameter and 490 height and knew that couldn't be right!

van der graaf manual
Does anyone have the Van der Graaf from MTA code SER1052222? I can't find a manual for ours either paper copy or online. Failing that, if you can find a model number or something on your machine I could try looking that up. I can't find one on ours...
Thanks!

Radiation cans
Hi all
According to our inventory, we have these radiation cans.
Does anyone have these and can tell me what size they are as I don’t believe the measurements in the picture would be correct!
Thanks

Virtual dissections
Hi All, Does anyone do virtual rat dissections on ipads/smartboards? Does the teacher still do a demo on a real rat? I'm just looking into possible alternatives. I was fairly impressed by a virtual frog dissection on a smartboard many years ago. If anyone could recommend apps that would be great! Th...

Re: Sourcing of frozen rats
Hey so this is a very old thread - I was just wondering what is the current consensus on rats vs piglets and associated prices?
Any recommendations on where to buy rats (or piglets if they are better and the teacher agrees) in the Newcastle area?

Re: Data Harvest communication error
Bigmack - I didn't have a sensor plugged in at the time! I did get a reply from the company. They suggested to make sure it's fully charged. Before I got that email though, I had tried a long press on the on/off button and that seemed to turn it off fully. I'm guessing a short press is like a standb...

Data Harvest communication error
Hi All, I have emailed the Data Harvest support but as they're in the UK I thought I'd ask here as well in case I get a quicker answer! The physics teacher (also new to this school) and I are trying to work out the data logger here. It's a data harvest easysense vision. When we turn it on we get a &...

Re: Science and Food Tech
Yeah my main food tech role is buying the ingredients and helping out in some of the classes (if I'm here those days) but it really isn't a massive part of my job. I am also wanting to have it in the RiskAssess schedule for myself so I don't forget to go shopping or can "tick it off" when ...

Re: Science and Food Tech
Yeah, that's what I was wanting - to have them on the schedule so Science staff can see that that there are other things going on. I didn't think about not signing off on the risk assessments. Does that mean I could just delete them later? I don't want to clog the system with saved food tech risk as...

Science and Food Tech
Hey all! I know I'm not the only science and food tech labbie out there, so I'm wondering if anyone else has tried using risk assess to help with time management by adding food pracs to the scheduling. Is that possible without doing an actual risk assessment? I'm assuming not, but I don't want to 'r...

Re: Conc Sulphuric Acid
Follow up on my previous post - I was looking up how to dispose of it when I found the amounts for use to make the carbon snake. (As far as I know, most teachers just do "about this much sugar" and add "about that much acid" and off it goes!). I thought I should try it in case ou...

Re: Conc Sulphuric Acid
I've found some dark brown Conc sulphuric acid here. It didn't react with sugar for the carbon snake demo (which is what I got it out for). Is it likely to be good for anything? There is probably about 1L of it.
