Re: position vacant at tara

Interesting that it requires "the relevant" diploma or certificate as an essential criteria. I wonder if it means my science degree and 10 years of experience wouldn't be relevant?

Re: RECALL PORTABLE GAS COOKERS

Just be aware portable Bunsen burners have been banned in Queensland schools. I was doing some research because we need some solution for bunsens at a portable bench in a lab with no gas.

I can't help other than to say I feel your pain. My prep room gets to 33 on the awful days. Maybe you could put thermometers in the labs and keep a record of the temperatures they get to?

Re: risk assess tips or tricks

We use it for all our prac requests regardless of whether a risk assessment is required. Keeps everything in order, you can't miss an email and if the teachers bother to look they can see what everyone else is up to.

Re: Pracs that are soley stationary supplies

I am really lucky in that any stationary supplies for the department are purchased for the entire school by the receptionist. This is getting away from the original question I wanted to know if you expect the teachers to organise there own pracs that only use stationary. But I guess that has been an...

Pracs that are soley stationary supplies

Just wondering if everyone organises pracs that only ask for stationary supplies. I have a teacher who has requested White paper and red and blue cardboard. Would you supply that or would you expect the teacher to get it for themselves?

DVD Carbon Cycles and Cycles

Good Afternoon everyone,

I am trying to source a DVD by VEA called Carbon Cycles and Cycles. Does anybody have a copy that they no longer use or need that I could buy from them?

Many Thanks

Re: labeling old chemicals in store

So even though the label from the company has no info e.g. risk phrases hazards etc. on it and just the name we still have to put a label that has nothing but the name? Dare I say that is a ridiculous waste of time! I think I will leave those to last.

Re: labeling old chemicals in store

Do we need to label every chemical or is it just those classed as hazardous or dangerous goods? e.g. Sodium bicarbonate as a lab reagent. The label has nothing other than the name on it. Surely we don't need to put that on??

Re: Agar Plates pricing for students

You didn't take into account the time it takes for you to make them surely that would add a significant amount.
I would charge $3. That sounds reasonable to me!

Re: Neutralising Chemicals

I neutralise acids with sodium carbonate. A bit gentler to use than NaOH. I add Na2CO3 until it stops fizzing then flush down the sink.

Re: labeling old chemicals in store

This comes directly from ASSIST. The question was about labelling old chemicals. Sorry its so long but it is relevant. If you have chemicals whose original supplier is unknown or no longer exists, you should make an assessment of the chemicals to determine if they are stable, have not degraded and a...

Hi Bindi,
Never presume the architects know anything about the safety requirements. I think they spend too much time making this look pretty. Cover your own butt and make sure it is done properly. You can't go back once its finished.

Re: Where to buy liquid nitregon

Hi Rita, How much do they charge?? I rang a supplier yesterday and it was a minimum $60 for 10litres. Obviously we don't need 10 litres but still have to pay the 60. I was trying to find someone other than the local Doctors. I'm in Bowral.

Re: Website - Risk Assess

You can look at the chemical user code explanation of codes and that will give you an idea of where you fit and also what you feel comfortable with. As it is a legal document I would seriously consider the implications of taking on a user code that you aren't comfortable with.
