Re: Was there an official memo about GHS ?

Our WHS committee would have no idea!! They never inspect the chem store or look at my SDS collection. One of the science teachers is the chair and she has no idea. I look after our chemicals but I have no idea who looks after the rest of the school. I figure its not my problem as long as I have the...

Re: Autoclave

Guess I'm lucky then. My pressure cooker has a gauge on it which tells you the internal pressure. I use oven bags in it and sterilise at 120 psi for 15 minutes. I then leave the entire thing to cool before opening it and disposing of the plates.

Re: Autoclave

I can only tell you what I have. Its non-electric so I use it over a hot plate as for size I guess it would depend on how many plates you are trying to sterilise at I time. I can do 40 in a large oven bag. It holds about 8 litres.

Re: Autoclave

Just buy a domestic pressure cooker. I'm sure they will be cheaper. They are easy to use and do the job effectively. I have been using one here for the 10yrs I have worked here.

Re: GHS Labeling

Chemwatch does use the pictograms on the labels for solutions in dropper bottles that need it.

Re: Was there an official memo about GHS ?

I decided to relabel chemicals as I use them. That way I figured by the end of the year I will have the ones we use at least labelled. When I told the business manager this her response was anything not labelled by the end of the year we obviously don't use regularly so dispose of it!

Re: Was there an official memo about GHS ?

I certainly have had no official memo from anyone. I am at an independent school. I have talked to the business manager and she knew nothing about it either. And my head teacher would have no clue. I have gained all my information from this site and then done research. I figure if I can show its a w...

Re: What are you doing this Holidays

Hi All,
Thought I would start off the holiday discussion early as this is my last day of work for this term. I am off to Vietnam and Cambodia(Angkor Wat) tomorrow for 13 days on a tour.
Wishing everyone a safe and happy break with whatever you are all doing!!

Re: minigrid slide

I put my OHP through the photocopier. Just use normal 1mm grip paper/graph paper. Maths dept may have some if you don't.

Re: beam balances.

We have 6 that were used with year 7 but that seems to have gone out the window along with other skills of reading scales and learning about weighing the mass of things. Just don't do it any more.

Re: minigrid slide

I make mine from overhead projector film photo copied with 1mm grid then cut out and stuck to slide. Very cheap!
