I didn't mean wasting time on chemtalk - No way!! I think I've learnt more here than I remember learning at uni! I was talking about writing letters to justify more labcoats etc...

Re: How many of us wear Lab coats??
Don't lab coats only cost around $25 each anyway? Works out about just over 1 hour pay. It sounds like you've probably spent more than 1 hour wasting time writing letters, doing research, chasing up support etc. Pretty crazy huh?

CSIS course
Hi I was just wondering how many people have put down Monday 26th and how many have put down Friday 30th for the CSIS course. Also, is it a case of: "the course will be running both days - choose the one you want to attend" Or: "The course will be running one of these two days - the o...

prepared slides
We have a prepared slide which has detatched from the cover slip. The specimen is on the cover slip. Is there a special glue that should be used to put the cover slip back on the slide? or is sticky tape over the top just as good? I've never had to worry about something like this before!

Re: St Marys Conference
Does anyone know how easy it is to get from the Airport to St Mary's? Is public transport good or will I need to take a taxi? Is anyone else flying in Thursday morning? If there are a few of us perhaps we could share a taxi bus.

Re: Disposable gloves
We get them from Q Stores for about $4 for 100. The kids use them for dissections and sometimes for senior chemistry.

Re: Test Tube Quality
I had a similar experience earlier this year. They sent us replacements for the ones that were broken. I find sometimes when you put the bottle brush in to clean them it goes right through and, as you said, the bottom comes out so neatly! Where do other people get their test tubes from?

Re: How many of us wear Lab coats??
I virtually live in mine. It protects my clothes, carries my pens, keys, random other things and helps people in other areas of the school know where I fit in. Also saves wearing an extra layer of clothing on cooler days! It is amazing to see how quickly it becomes dirty/stained/splashed on after i ...

Re: Acid/Base stock solutions
I guess I can take responsibility for this being in the wrong section as I wrote the initial post. I'm pretty sure it was back in my early Chemtalk days and I probably just hit the 'new topic' button in the last forum I was reading, which automatically puts the new post in that topic. I have since l...

Re: droppers
Hi Estelle, I tried Napisan first... (forgot to mention that - it's my first try with everything now! - THANK YOU!!! to whoever it was who discovered this marvellous fact that napisan is good for things other than clothes. My distillation equipment looks like new.) I got the dropper lids from Serrat...

droppers
Thanks to someone's bright idea in another post, I have ordered the screw on caps for our dropper bottles and am slowly changing them over from the droppers to the caps. I decided that I may as well wash all the spare droppers and then the currently-in-use ones as I go. I took them apart and washed ...

silver
I have been collecting silver from the experiments the kids have done and was going to cook it next time the art department does their thing, just to see what would happen. Today I knocked the crucible off the shelf, which of course smashed, so now I have silver 'contaminated' with a few other thing...

Would it be worth just attaching it to a post so anyone can use it? Or is it too big for that?

Re: genetics DVD
Hi All! The Simpsons series sets are on sale at K-Mart at the moment for $29.99 for anyone who is interested. I got one yesterday so the teachers can have a look (they are doing genetics right now!) and if no-one wants to use it I guess I'll just sell it on e-bay!

Re: Platinum electrodes
I don't know if this is of any value to you, but I just saw a new graduated voltameter for $145 ex GST in the Westlab catalogue, so if the platinum electrodes end up being too expensive it might be worth getting a whole new thing. It doesn't give details of size or production rate and I have no idea...

Re: St Marys Conference
Oh yeah, thanks Pommy. Now I remember reading this bit! It didn't come up with the search terms I used. Sorry! I'll wait till September to put in my travel arrangements for the CSIS course. I'll let them know there is another conference the week before so they can think about it as well... Thanks ag...
