Had that feeling you had over-thought it!
Reminds me of a story - the Americans spent a vast sum of money designing a ballpoint pen that would work in zero gravity at the international space station. When they arrived, the Russians showed them their solution - a pencil

Re: Banned from 1 NOV
Thanks for all the information relating to the plastics ban. I am a DOE school that has NOT been told about this. I brought it up to the powers that be and they totally disregarded anything I had to say. I now have decided that I won't purchase any more plastics but will use up the products I have ...

Re: Banned from 1 NOV
The whole collection thing is a bit ridiculous. One 100L box will be collected free of charge. Items can be dropped off in Botany in Sydney. I don't have a 100L box but they have told me I can tape multiple boxes together. Really, at the end of the day, it sounds easier to drop them in the bin. goto...

Re: Prac Storage and Delivery
ottenc - you have been going above and beyond what is expected of most labbies. You have been providing 5 star service and apart from the space, the impact on your time must be huge. Expect a bit of resistance when/if you change procedures. Just know, that most of us provide the materials for the wh...

Re: Prac Storage and Delivery
Most of our pracs are prepared in such a way that each group (8-12 groups in a class) have their own tub with everything they need in it. With the potential for 22 classes of 12 groups, I don't think there's enough bench space in the world :cheesy: You may have to rethink and get the teachers handi...

Re: Prac Storage and Delivery
I have bench space in the prep room that I use for storing pracs until needed. Most times, the prac is just one tub's worth. I do have some trolleys for use when the prac has more than one tub's worth of equipment. I actually don't have much space for storing trolleys because I have two large benche...

Re: Chair Damage
Do people seriously say that? I'm heading towards the title of 'old person' myself (as are most of us eventually) and don't appreciate this kind of attitude. Did these people not ever have parents or grandparents? Makes me think the whole world is 'turning to poo', Bigmack! Yep J, I have heard it s...

We thought it had stopped too, but alas... Yes, truly worried about the current state of affairs. My father is now in respite care and looks like he will be staying there permanently. I dread what will happen with an outbreak where he is. So many people think covid is just a cold. My experience was ...

Re: Chair Damage
Going back to a post from earlier this year. We have had two damaged chairs in the last two weeks. The first chair had snapped through the upright but the student wasn't doing anything extraordinary at the time. On close inspection, you could see the start of a defined cut in the chair, causing a we...

Re: 100ml dropper bottles
Can you buy caps for them? You could save them for prac exams where they need <100mL of solution per student. If you want to use them for dropper bottles, could you get your TAS people to drill holes in a block of wood to fit the bottles?

Re: Preserving Animals
If you are a DoE school, as of 5 years ago we could. So unless the CSIS has changed, No as of 5 years ago NO Licence is needed. Wasn't CSIS written in 1999? On the NSW Department of Environment website it says: "You need a licence to carry out taxidermy on or to keep preserved specimens of: na...

It's going to be in a flammable liquid and needs to be stored accordingly. You will also have to apply for a licence from Dept of Environment to keep a preserved specimen.

Yep, storage always our bug bear. I have lots of cupboard space, some is empty but not a lot of space for bulky items. In the refurb (before me) there was going to be a large storeroom. Then they realised the teachers had no staffroom so the storeroom became staffroom (it is light and airy as it got...

Go back and talk to the teacher. Let them know what you found out. They may be happy with 0.01M or they have given you the wrong chemical - it happens!
Don't feel bad about chatting to the teacher. We all make mistakes.

The larger one. I grabbed one during the height of COVID when cleaning was a high priority. Ran on the WHS theme - needed to clean the glasses easily, plus this has the advantage of not having to lift to drain. You could get by without the lid and buy that later. Certainly would have been great for ...

Yes, it was me but I may have shared it on the ASET email group. Look on Ebay where you can buy direct from the supplier. They were really good to deal with. I found I can just fit a whole class set (30) glasses in at a time. Basket allows you to drain the glasses before rinsing. Plug at the bottom ...
